Melaka 2011

The city of Melaka, Malaysia maintains a proud heritage of Portuguese  culture.

The church of Saint Francis Xavier built in 1843.  Saint Francis  ( actual name Francisco de Jasso y Azpilicueta)  was a Roman Catholic Missionary that traveled the world preaching Christianity.  In the 1540s,  he preached Christianity in Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, etc.

The Christ Church Melaka was founded in 1753 after the Dutch Empire defeated the Portuguese Empire.  The Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824, transferred the Dutch church into the possessions of the East India Company.
